The article presents the authors' reflections on the possibility and feasibility of using multimodal samples, combining, in particular, telephone and personal door-to-door surveys, in sociological research. Reacting to the work by Oleg Oberemko and co-authors “Who Participates in Telephone and Residential Face-to-Face Surveys: A Comparative Analysis” published in the same issue, the authors open a professional discussion on the designated topic, outline the tasks that the combination of modes is designed to solve and the main methodological challenges growing out of this design, and also suggest directions for further research.
