Russia: society of moral transit?

Abstract

The article considers new trends in moral settings of Russians designed during twenty years of reforms. The article is based on the results of empirical studies conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1997-2011; the author gives an attempt to answer the question about the moral decline as one of the basic directions of the development of Russian society. The article analyses the popularity of moral settings among representatives of different social groups and strata including groups with low level of social success during the years of reforming. It was concluded that in spite of disintegration of moral settings during reforms, the main values, meanings and norms of behavior are still actual for most of Russians, and the intergenerational transit of moral values is renewing.
