The author analyses biographical interviews conducted among the representatives of the Southern-Ural intelligentsia. Respondents cited the key events in their life and the life of the country such as the period of the Second World War and post-perestroika 1990s. The biographies were stated in one of the four possible forms such as novel, tragedy, comedy or satire. It was also revealed that shape of a “big story” is dependent on the narrative form chosen by respondent.
