Strategies of adaptation of ethnic migrants to local communities

Abstract

The article based on empirical data across regions of Russia considers most popular strategies of adaptation of ethnic migrants who were born outside of Russia but live now here. The author examines temporary labor migrants who came from the CIS countries, as well as those migrants who have long been living in Russia. Groups of ethnic migrants are considered across countries of the CIS.

Special attention is paid to the adaptation and integration; the author reveals factors that facilitate integration of migrants into accepting society. Different approaches to the problem of adaptation of migrants discussed by western scientists are also considered; the study examines regularities of adaptation of migrants depending on region and size of settlement.
